Aztalan Video Available Wisconsin Public Television finished production of a short promotional and educational video called "Aztalan: National Historic Landmark" in collaboration with the Friends of Aztalan State Park and fully funded by the Friends as a 2006 goal. It was produced in two versions, one for the general public, and a second, with an ending requesting donations, to be used for fundraising for the new visitor's center. Members received a free copy of the promotional/educational video and it will also be liberally distributed to area schools, municipalities, civic organizations and the Department of Tourism. Those who want to help raise funds from businesses and organizations can request the second version. For more information contact president Bob Birmingham at by email or 608 241-4958. Congratulations to the the Friends and financial supporters who made this possible. New Mound Steps: Due to natural conditions, the steps to the summit of both mounds had deteriorated to an unsafe level. This summer (2011), a grant and a Friends' contribution of $2000 made purchase of required materials possible. The construction of a new staircase for each mound took regular DNR staff time and Friends' volunteer labor. The building materials were chosen to last at least 20 years, and the structures were designed such that single steps can be replaced without dismantling the whole structure. Thanks to all who helped; it was hot work under an unusually hot sun! |
